As part of the UC San Diego community, the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) strives to better enable faculty and researchers to stay at the forefront of science and technology, as well as commerce. For entrepreneurs, time and money are of the essence. After working closely with faculty members and industry and listening to their needs, the TTO has unveiled the latest model in licensing–the UCSD Express License, now also available for physical sciences/engineering innovations!
With a mission to foster entrepreneurial activity and better facilitate the incubation of lean start-ups, The Express License offers the following advantages:
In addition, the upfront fee may be substituted with a convertible note at the choosing of the entrepreneur.
The application may be used for any invention marketed by UCSD. This opportunity to obtain an express license is open only to start-ups for which the UCSD invention is the foundational invention. If the application is approved, the result of this process will be a partially executed license as posted to the Express License web page hosted by invent.ucsd.edu. Applicant will have the opportunity to execute the license “AS IS.” No negotiation or subsequent request for amendment will be entertained by the university.
The application and any attachment are subject to California Public Records Act requests.
The express license is part of a pilot program and will be re-evaluated in the near future.
